If the cabinet is climbing toward room temperature but you can still hear the unit running, the cold is being made somewhere and just not reaching the food. We usually trace that to an evaporator fan that has quit, a defrost fault packing the coil in ice so air can’t pass, or condenser coils so caked in dust they can’t shed heat. When it turns out to be the compressor or a refrigerant leak instead, we tell you straight and weigh the repair against a new unit before you spend.

When the freezer goes slack but the fridge below it stays cold, the problem lives in the freezer’s own cooling circuit rather than the whole machine. First stops are the defrost heater and its thermostat, the evaporator fan that drives air across the freezer coil, and the door seal — a tired gasket pulls in damp air that frosts the coil and bleeds off freezing power. A drifting thermostat setting or a control board losing its place round out the short list.

Ice is a sequence — water gets in, freezes on a timer, then drops — and a break anywhere in that chain stops cubes. We follow it from the inlet valve and supply line (often kinked behind the cabinet or frozen solid) through to the ice-maker module, the feeler arm, and the thermistor that signals harvest. Aurora’s hard water is its own factor, slowly scaling the valve and mold until output crawls to a stop.

Water under the crispers or spreading across the floor almost always comes down to one of two faults. Either the defrost drain is plugged and backing meltwater up inside the cabinet, or a supply line or filter housing feeding the dispenser and ice maker has cracked or worked loose. A frozen drain and a slow line leak leave the same puddle but call for different repairs, so we find the actual source instead of wiping it up and hoping.

A fresh rattle, drone, or buzz nearly always traces back to a moving part. We pin it down — a condenser or evaporator fan motor going bad, a compressor sitting on worn mounts, or frost dragging on a fan blade after the defrost system slips. A noisy fan caught now is cheap; left alone it tends to take out the costlier parts crowded around it.

When the dispenser in the door stops responding, we sort the quick fixes from the real ones — a chute or fill tube frozen shut, a dead dispenser switch or actuator, the water inlet valve, or the main control board behind it all. If only water or only ice has dropped out, that usually points us to a single valve or switch, and we can often close it out on the first visit.
