When the fresh-food side drifts warm but the unit still hums, the cold usually isn’t being moved or made — a failed evaporator fan, frost-blocked airflow from a stuck defrost system, or dirty condenser coils. Less often it’s the compressor or a sealed-system leak, which we diagnose honestly before recommending repair vs. replacement.

A freezer that’s soft while the fridge stays fine points to the freezer’s own cold-air path. We check the defrost heater and thermostat, the evaporator fan that pushes freezer air, and the door gasket — a worn seal lets in humid air that frosts coils and kills freezing power. Set-temperature drift and a failing control board are the other usual suspects.

Ice problems are a chain: water has to reach the unit, freeze on schedule, and eject. We trace it from the inlet valve and water line (a kinked or frozen line is common) to the ice-maker module, feeler arm, and fill thermistor. Hard Denver water also scales up valves over time.

Almost always one of two things: a clogged defrost drain backing up melt-water inside, or a cracked or loose water line / filter housing feeding the dispenser and ice maker. We find the source rather than mopping the symptom — a frozen drain line and a slow supply-line drip look the same on the floor but need different fixes.

A new rattle, hum, or buzz usually comes from something spinning — a failing evaporator or condenser fan motor, a worn compressor mount, or ice contacting a fan blade after a defrost fault. Catching a noisy fan early often saves the bigger components it sits next to.

When the door dispenser goes dead, we separate the simple from the serious — a frozen dispenser chute or fill tube, a failed dispenser switch or actuator, the water inlet valve, or the main control board. For water-only or ice-only failures we can often narrow it to one part on the first visit.
