LG dryers are unusual in a good way: they actually measure exhaust airflow and tell you when the vent is choking — the d80/d90/d95 family most brands wish they had. Here is what LG’s common codes mean on Denver Metro service calls.
d80 / d90 / d95 — duct blockage detected
The Flow Sense system measured restricted exhaust: d80 means roughly 80% blocked, d90 and d95 worse. This is not a dryer failure — it is the vent duct: packed lint, a crushed hose behind the machine, too many elbows, or a frozen exterior flap in a Denver winter. Take it literally. A d95 dryer is running hot, wasting energy and shortening its own life with every load; duct cleaning is the fix, and the code clears itself once air moves again.
tE1 / tE2 — thermistor error
A temperature sensor reads open or shorted. Unlike the d-codes this one is a real part: the thermistor itself, a connector, or — less often — heat damage from a long-ignored airflow problem. The two stories connect: choked vents cook sensors.
PS — power supply / voltage issue
On electric models PS flags a leg of the 240V supply missing or miswired — a cord, outlet or breaker problem more often than a dryer problem. The classic case: dryer tumbles but never heats, because heat needs both legs and the motor needs only one.
FO — filter out / clean filter
A reminder more than a fault: seat the lint filter properly and clean it. If it persists with a clean filter, the sensor that watches the filter is the suspect.
Why we don’t recommend guessing parts
The d-codes cost a duct cleaning; tE1 can be a $30 thermistor or collateral heat damage; PS is often not the dryer at all. Live measurements separate them before any part is ordered — and our diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair. The airflow story is the same one we tell in dryer won’t heat.

My LG shows d80 but I just cleaned the lint screen – why?
The screen is only the first foot of the system. d80 measures the whole exhaust path – the duct behind and above the machine is where the real blockage lives.
Can I run the dryer with d95?
It will run, but at severe restriction: long cycles, high heat stress, and fire risk climbing with every load. Treat d95 as a stop-and-clean, not a suggestion.
Why does my electric LG tumble but not heat?
That is the PS story: heating elements need both 240V legs, the motor only one. Check the breaker first – one tripped leg produces exactly this symptom.
