Samsung dishwashers use the same C-code language as the brand’s washers and refrigerators — short codes that name a symptom, not a part. Here are the ones we see most on Denver Metro service calls.
LC — leak detected
Samsung’s most famous dishwasher code: the moisture sensor in the base pan got wet. Sometimes it is a real leak — a hose clamp, a door seal, a cracked sump. Sometimes it is condensation or a splash from an overfilled detergent moment, and the code clears once the pan dries. An LC that returns after drying out is real: the pan hides the leak while it works on your cabinet floor, so this one deserves a look, not a wait.
4C — water supply error
The tub is not filling in time: a clogged inlet screen — sediment is a frequent find in Denver Metro homes — a failing fill valve, a kinked line, or a supply valve half-closed under the sink. Same family as the washer’s 4C; same suspects.
OC — over-level water
Too much water in the tub: a fill valve that no longer shuts crisply, a stuck float sensor, or a drain problem leaving water behind that stacks up on the next fill. OC and a slow drain often travel together — we check the drain path first.
HE — heater error
The water never reached temperature or the heater circuit faulted. Dishes come out wet, films of detergent stay behind — heat is half of what a dishwasher does. Heaters and their sensors are routine, moderately priced repairs.
Why we don’t recommend guessing parts
LC can be condensation or a cracked sump; 4C can be a screen cleaning or a valve. Swapping parts in price order is how a $150 repair becomes a $400 one — live diagnosis separates them first, and our diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair. No code at all? Start with dishwasher not cleaning.

My Samsung shows LC but I see no water anywhere – is it lying?
No – the sensor lives in a hidden base pan under the tub. Tilt-drying the pan clears a one-off splash; an LC that keeps returning means water really is arriving down there.
Can moving the dishwasher trigger LC?
Yes – sloshing residual water into the base pan during a move or a repair is a classic false LC. Let the pan dry and the code should clear.
Why do dishes come out wet and gritty with HE?
Without heat there is no proper wash or dry: detergent needs hot water to dissolve and activate. A failed heater shows up as bad cleaning before anyone reads the code.
