LG refrigerators prefix their trouble codes with “Er” — and behind most of them stands the same villain: ice where ice does not belong. We covered the most common one, rF / Er rF, in its own guide; here is the rest of the family as we see it on Denver Metro service calls.
Er FF — freezer fan error
The freezer’s evaporator fan is stalled — and on LGs the usual reason is ice grown around the blade after a defrost fault, not a dead fan. Replacing only the fan without fixing the defrost problem brings the ice, and the code, right back. Same story as the fresh-food side’s rF.
Er IF — ice maker fan error
The dedicated fan that cools the door ice maker is blocked or failed — iced over more often than broken. Symptoms arrive as slow or stopped ice production before the code ever shows; the fix runs from a controlled thaw to a fan or the ice maker assembly.
Er dH — defrost heater / defrost fault
The defrost system did not finish its job: heater, sensor or control. Left alone, frost walls off the evaporator over days — freezer stays cold, fresh food warms, and the fan codes above start appearing as collateral. Catching dH early is the cheap version of this repair.
Er CO / Er CF — communication / fan feedback errors
The boards stopped talking (CO), or a fan reports no feedback signal (CF). Occasionally a power-cycle clears a glitch; persistent codes mean a harness, a fan motor, or a board — measurable, and worth measuring before the expensive guess.
Why we don’t recommend guessing parts
Almost every LG fridge code can be a $0 thaw, a $60 sensor, or a board — and they all look like “fridge getting warm” from the kitchen. Why do LG fridge codes keep coming back after a reset?
Because most of them are ice stories: the code clears, the ice stays, the fan jams again. Until the defrost fault is fixed, every reset is a countdown.
Is Er CO serious?
It can be a loose connector or a board – the range is wide. What it is not is ignorable: a fridge whose boards stop talking can stop cooling without warning.
