COMMON AMANA PROBLEMS & ERROR CODES — WHAT THEY REALLY MEAN

Pulled from Amana’s shared Whirlpool-family service tech-sheets plus our shop’s experience — the faults customers actually run into across Amana washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers. We diagnose and repair these; we don’t recommend DIY.

F5 E2

Washer — lid won’t lock

You’ll notice: the washer won’t start, you hear it try to lock the lid and click, and the display shows F5 E2.

What it means: per the Whirlpool-family washer tech-sheet, F5 E2 means the control couldn’t lock the lid in time — usually a failing lid-lock assembly, debris in the strike, or a wiring fault. A top-loader won’t spin until the lid locks.

Common on Amana top-load washers (NTW series, Whirlpool platform).

→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.

HEAT

Dryer — runs but won’t heat

You’ll notice: the drum turns but the clothes come out cold and damp.

What it means: on Amana dryers, no-heat is usually a burned-out heating element, a blown thermal fuse or open thermostat, or restricted venting that trips the safety. Gas models add the igniter and valve coils.

Applies to Amana electric and gas dryers (NED / NGD).

→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.

WARM

Refrigerator — not cooling

You’ll notice: the fridge or freezer is warmer than its setting, food isn’t keeping, and the temperature climbs.

What it means: a warm Amana usually traces to a failed thermistor, a stalled evaporator fan, a defrost fault icing the coil, or a sealed-system problem — confirmed with the Whirlpool-family diagnostics.

Common on Amana top-freezer and side-by-side refrigerators.

→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.

DRAIN

Dishwasher — won’t drain

You’ll notice: the cycle ends with water in the bottom of the tub and dishes that aren’t clean.

What it means: water left in the tub usually points to a clogged filter or sump, a blocked drain hose, or a jammed or failing drain pump.

Common on Amana built-in dishwashers (ADB series).

→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.

REPAIR OR REPLACE YOUR AMANA?

A good rule of thumb: if your Amana is under about eight years old and the repair costs less than half of a comparable new unit, repairing is the better value — Amana shares parts with the whole Whirlpool family, so components are cheap and easy to get, and most faults are a single part. And if your Amana genuinely isn’t worth fixing, we’ll tell you straight. That’s the FiXiFY way.
