Sub-Zero is the gold standard of built-in refrigeration — dual-refrigeration, magnetic door seals, and a sealed system engineered to run for 20 years or more. At Sub-Zero prices a new unit is a major investment, so repair is almost always the right call. For more than six years, FiXiFY has repaired Sub-Zero refrigerators, freezers, wine units and ice makers in homes across the Denver Metro area. We’re based at a storefront in Denver and we work from Sub-Zero’s own service documentation.
Whether your Sub-Zero fridge column has gone warm, the freezer is frosting over, or the ice maker has quit, we’ll diagnose the cause and get it cold again. Sub-Zero and Wolf are sisters under one parent — we service both.

COMMON SUB-ZERO PROBLEMS — WHAT THEY REALLY MEAN
Pulled from Sub-Zero’s own service documentation plus our shop’s hands-on experience — the faults customers actually run into across Sub-Zero refrigerators, freezers, wine units and ice makers, explained accurately. We diagnose and repair these; we don’t recommend DIY on sealed refrigeration systems.
Refrigerator — not cooling
You’ll notice: the fresh-food column is warmer than its setting while the freezer may still be cold — the classic dual-refrigeration split.
What it means: per Sub-Zero’s service data, a warm refrigerator side usually traces to a stalled evaporator fan, a defrost-system fault icing that coil, a failed thermistor, or — on dual-refrigeration models — a problem in the refrigerator side’s own sealed circuit. We confirm it with Sub-Zero’s diagnostics before touching the sealed system.
Common on Sub-Zero built-in and integrated columns and side-by-sides (BI / IC series).

Freezer — frosting over / not freezing
You’ll notice: heavy frost building on the back wall or around the coil, ice on the drawers, or the freezer not holding temperature.
What it means: per Sub-Zero’s documentation, this is usually a defrost-system fault (defrost heater, terminator or control), a worn or magnetic door gasket letting humid air in, or an evaporator fan that’s stalled — all of which we test before adding heat or refrigerant.
Common on Sub-Zero freezer columns and drawers.
→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.
Ice maker — not making ice
You’ll notice: the ice maker has stopped producing, makes only a little, or the ice is hollow or undersized.
What it means: on Sub-Zero ice makers this usually traces to the water inlet valve, a frozen or kinked fill line, the ice-maker module or its thermostat, or low water pressure to the unit.
Common on Sub-Zero built-in and undercounter ice makers.
→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.
Wine unit — won’t hold temperature
You’ll notice: a wine-storage zone runs too warm or too cold, swings out of range, or one of the dual zones won’t cool.
What it means: on Sub-Zero wine units this usually traces to a thermistor reading wrong, a stalled fan, a defrost or damper fault, or a control-board problem — precise temperature is the whole point of these units, so they’re worth dialing back in.
Common on Sub-Zero built-in and integrated wine preservation units.
→ Needs professional service — book FiXiFY.
REPAIR OR REPLACE YOUR SUB-ZERO?
With Sub-Zero, repair is almost always the answer — a new built-in column or side-by-side runs many thousands of dollars and requires cabinetry work, while most faults are a single component (a fan, a thermistor, a defrost part, a door gasket). These units are engineered to be serviced for two decades. Even sealed-system work is usually worth it on a Sub-Zero. And if one genuinely isn’t worth fixing, we’ll tell you straight — that’s the FiXiFY way.
