GE Profile Washer Dryer Combo Error Codes: 352, 361 and Heat Pump Faults

GE’s Profile combination washer and heat pump dryer washes and dries in one drum, using a heat pump instead of a heating element and vent, and that system adds its own fault codes in the 200s and 300s. The meanings below come from GE’s Technical Service Guide 31-9415 (April 2024, revised October 2024) for model PFQ97HSPV0DS, which also notes PFQ83 differences. The model and serial tag is behind the door, at the lower center of the opening. GE’s own rule applies here too: never replace a part based solely on a fault code, because the main control board can generate a false fault.

Messages on the display

“Water Not Entering Appliance” — check that both supply valves are on, especially after installation or a vacation. The controls then lock for four minutes, and unplugging restarts the timer.

“Cycle Canceled Draining” — the combo was paused for more than 24 hours, or stopped itself because of an error; the same four-minute lockout applies. A cycle paused with the door open also cancels after 15 minutes. Without a long pause, read the stored codes.

“DOOR OPEN” — the door is not fully closed. A blinking Spin light — an out-of-balance load; if the laundry comes out wetter than usual, redistribute it and run Rinse & Dry.

“Check and Clean Drain Pump Filter” — the combo has detected a drain restriction, possibly hair, lint or other debris. The owner can clean this filter, behind the small door at the bottom front; follow the owner’s manual and keep a shallow pan ready, since GE warns up to a quart of water can come out.

How to read the stored fault codes

GE built in a Consumer Fault Code Mode. With the combo idle and every light off, press and hold Start/Pause for 10 seconds, until all the lights come on. Start/Pause and the Door Lock light then blink, and the arrow keys scroll through any stored codes. Any other button exits; the mode times out after 10 minutes. Write the numbers down before you call. The separate service mode, which runs components and can clear the log, is for technicians.

How the drying side works

The blower pulls air from the drum through the lint filter into the evaporator, which cools it so the moisture condenses. That water drains through a condensate hose to the tub sump and is pumped out with the wash water, so unlike the compact dryer in our Electrolux dryer codes guide, there is no container to empty. The air is reheated over the condenser and returns to the drum. One inverter board runs both the variable-speed compressor and the blower. Five temperature sensors, NTC 1 to NTC 5, report back, and Sensor Dry uses a humidity sensor to decide the load is dry.

The 200- and 300-series codes

Code GE’s name Where GE’s checks point
203, 206, 209, 215, 216, 217, 220, 229, 233, 241 Blower motor inverter fault Supply voltage, connections, the blower motor, then the compressor/blower inverter board
303, 306, 311, 317, 318, 319, 322, 331, 335, 340, 343 Compressor motor inverter fault Supply voltage, connections, the compressor motor, then the same board
350 UI / main control board communication fault Wiring and voltages between the two boards
351 (with 18) Drain pump clearing algorithm failed Water left after draining: filter, hose, standpipe height, pump
352, 353 Compressor discharge overtemp 212°F or more: condensate line, lint filter, fan, lint in the air path, a leak
354 to 358, 363, 364 Heat pump temperature sensor faults (NTC 1 to NTC 5) A reading out of range: the sensor, its wiring, a heat pump test
359 Multiple thermistor faults Several sensors out of range at once
360, 362, 365 Humidity sensor (RH) fault Communication failure or a reading out of range
361 Refrigerant leak A leak in the sealed heat pump system

The washing side. Codes under 100 read much like GE’s front-load washer codes: door lock (1, 2, 23, 24, 32/77), flood and water level (6, 8, 20, 25, 57, 65), drain (18), locked rotor (3), balance (22, 26, 31), and the drive motor inverter and accelerometer groups. Our GE washer error codes guide explains them. Some have everyday causes in GE’s own table: 09 means three cycles ran without the door being opened, so open and close it; 19, a cycle or wet laundry left sitting for more than 24 hours; 27, water left in the tub with the door open for more than 15 minutes.

The codes that mean stop and call

361, refrigerant leak. The sealed system holds 12.25 ounces of R-134a. GE’s technicians look for oil spray and bubble-test the joints, and the repair the guide lists is a new heat pump system. No owner fix is listed.

352 and 353, compressor overheating. GE’s first two suspects are a clogged condensate drain line and a clogged lint filter, so clean the lint filter first. If the code returns, the fan, sensors, ducts, evaporator inlet and sealed system need checking.

6, 20 and 57 mean water where it should not be: turn off the supply valves and call, and see washer leaking water if it is already on the floor. 32 and 77 mean the door cannot unlock; do not force it.

Inverter codes and power. The combo runs on an ordinary 120-volt outlet, and GE’s first check for every blower and compressor inverter code is the supply voltage. GE requires a grounded three-prong outlet on a 15- or 20-amp circuit, recommends a dedicated one, and prohibits extension cords and two-prong adapters. Plug it straight into a proper outlet first; if the code returns, book the test.

Damp clothes without a code

GE calls Sensor Dry a low-temperature dry that adjusts its time to reach the target moisture, so cycle length varies. Check the settings first: Eco Dry, in the menu and off by default, deliberately leaves loads less dry; Timed Dry stops at the set time however damp the load is; out-of-balance loads leave extra water and lengthen dry time. Otherwise, GE’s procedure is to check the heat pump codes and run its heat pump test.

One Colorado detail: GE says the room should never fall below 60°F for proper operation, and a closet needs ventilated doors with at least 60 square inches of open area. An unheated garage or basement can drop below that through a Denver winter.

Why we don’t recommend guessing parts

Most heat pump codes in GE’s guide send the technician to the same six-minute heat pump test, which ramps the compressor to 6,000 RPM while showing its power draw, the blower speed, all five temperature sensors and the humidity reading. Under 275 watts at full speed means a low charge, and GE’s fix is a complete heat pump assembly; the guide never describes recharging. Some parts, such as the evaporator sensor, are reached only after that assembly is lifted out. We read the codes, run the tests, quote the actual repair, and the diagnostic fee is credited toward it.

Repair or replace?

Sensors, the blower motor, the drain pump, the door lock and the inverter board are repairs on a combo this young: the V in PFQ97HSPV0DS is GE’s code for the 2023 model year, and the serial number’s first two characters give the build month and year. A leak or low charge means a whole heat pump assembly, so check your GE warranty first; GE points to the warranty page in the Use and Care manual.

FAQ

What does code 361 mean on a GE Profile washer dryer combo?

It is GE’s refrigerant leak code: the control has detected a leak in the sealed heat pump system that dries the laundry. The repair in GE’s service guide is a new heat pump system, so write the code down, check your warranty and book a technician rather than resetting it.

What causes code 352 or 353 on a GE Profile combo?

Both mean the compressor discharge temperature reached 212 degrees F or more. GE’s first suspects are a clogged lint filter and a clogged condensate drain line, so clean the lint filter; if the code comes back, the fan, sensors and heat pump need testing.

How do I see the stored error codes on a GE Profile washer dryer combo?

Start with the combo idle and all lights off, then hold Start/Pause for 10 seconds until every light comes on. Step through the stored codes with the arrow keys; pressing any other button leaves the mode, which also ends on its own after 10 minutes.

Why are clothes still damp after a GE Profile combo cycle?

Check the settings before suspecting a part: Eco Dry leaves loads less dry on purpose, and Timed Dry ends at the set time no matter how damp the load is. Unbalanced loads also hold more water after spin. If none of those apply, the humidity sensor and heat pump need a proper test.
