Maytag dryers — Bravos, Centennial, MED/MGD series — run on Whirlpool’s control platform, so they speak the same code language we covered for Whirlpool dryers. What differs is which codes actually turn up in the field on Maytag models. Here is how we read them on Denver Metro service calls.
AF — restricted airflow
The dryer measured weak exhaust flow. Nine times out of ten it is the venting, not the machine: lint packed into the duct, a crushed transition hose behind a tight laundry closet, or an exterior flap frozen shut in a Denver winter. Take AF literally — restricted airflow stretches cycles, cooks thermal fuses and heating elements, and is the leading factor behind dryer fires. Clean the screen, then have the duct measured; if AF returns, the restriction is deeper than the screen.
PF — power failure mid-cycle
The dryer lost power while running and is telling you why the load is damp. After an outage it is purely informational. PF appearing on calm days points at a loose cord connection, a worn outlet, or a breaker heading for failure — electrical symptoms worth addressing before the machine simply stops starting.
L2 — low line voltage
An electric Maytag needs both 240V legs: the motor runs on one, the heater needs both. Lose a leg to a half-tripped breaker or a burned outlet contact and you get the classic complaint — the drum turns, the clothes stay wet — with L2 on the display. This is a house-wiring diagnosis as often as an appliance one.
F01 — main control fault
The control board reported an internal error. A power cycle sometimes clears a one-off after a surge; F01 that returns usually means the board — the most misdiagnosed part on this platform, and the reason we confirm before ordering.
No code, just long cycles — the silent AF
Plenty of Maytag dryers degrade without ever showing a code: one load needing two cycles is the same airflow story with no label attached. We cover that pattern in dryer won’t heat and loud noise / grinding.
Why we don’t recommend guessing parts
AF can be a free vent-flap fix or a blower housing; L2 is often not the dryer at all. Airflow, exhaust temperature and voltage readings separate them in minutes — and our diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair.

FAQ
Drum turns but clothes stay wet – is that L2?
It is the classic L2 picture on an electric dryer: the motor has power, the heater does not. Check the breaker first; a single tripped leg produces exactly this.
Are Maytag and Whirlpool dryer codes identical?
Same platform, same language – AF, PF, F-series carry across, and many Kenmore dryers too. Model-specific differences exist, so we confirm against the model number.
Is it safe to keep using a dryer showing AF?
Not for long. Restricted airflow is both an efficiency and a fire issue, and it kills heating parts early. Get the duct cleaned before the repair bill grows.
