Common washing machine problems we repair in Denver
Tap a symptom. Each section says what usually causes it, what we check on site, and what the fix normally is.
Washer not draining
Likely cause. The drain pump is blocked by a sock, coin, hair tie or bra wire, or the pump motor itself has failed. On front-loaders the pump filter at the bottom front is the usual culprit. A kinked or clogged drain hose, or a standpipe that cannot take the flow, gives the same result. On some top-loaders a failed lid lock stops the drain cycle from starting at all.
What we check. Pump filter and impeller, pump motor with a meter, hose routing, and whether the control is actually sending power to the pump.
Typical fix. Clear the obstruction, or replace the drain pump. Pumps for LG, Samsung, Whirlpool and GE are common stock on the truck. Guide: Washer not draining. LG owners usually see the OE code with this fault.
Washer not spinning
Likely cause. The washer will not spin until it has drained, so a drain fault often shows up as a spin fault. Beyond that: a failed lid lock or door lock assembly, worn suspension rods or shock absorbers that let the tub hit the cabinet so the control aborts the spin, a stretched drive belt on belt-drive machines, or a failed rotor position sensor or motor control board on direct-drive LG and Samsung units. Older Whirlpool top-loaders break the motor coupling.
What we check. Drain first, then lock switch, suspension, belt condition, and the motor sensor with a test cycle.
Typical fix. Lock assembly, suspension set, belt or sensor. If it is unbalanced-load behaviour (the LG UE code), worn suspension is the usual repair. Guide: Washer won't spin.
Washer leaking water
Likely cause. Where the water appears tells us a lot. Front of a front-loader: torn door boot or debris in the fold. Rear: fill hoses or inlet valve body. Underneath during drain: cracked drain pump housing or a loose hose clamp. Underneath during wash: tub seal (bearing failure). From the top: detergent dispenser drawer or overdosing with HE detergent, which oversuds and pushes water out the vent.
What we check. Dry the floor, run a short cycle and watch each stage with the back panel off.
Typical fix. Boot, hoses, clamp, dispenser or pump housing are routine. A leaking tub seal means the bearings are going; we quote that honestly against replacement. Guide: Washer leaking water.
Washer won't start or has no power
Likely cause. Lid lock or door lock (the control refuses to start with the door unlatched), a failed line noise filter, a dead main control board, or a control panel with a stuck key. On Whirlpool-platform top-loaders the lid lock is the single most common no-start part.
What we check. Outlet voltage, noise filter, lock switch continuity, board power-up and any stored fault code.
Typical fix. Lock assembly or noise filter are same-visit repairs. Boards are quoted from the model number and ordered.
Washer not filling, or filling slowly
Likely cause. Clogged inlet screens on the supply hoses (Denver's hard water scales them up), a failed water inlet valve solenoid, closed or half-closed supply valves behind the machine, or a water-level pressure switch and hose that are stuck.
What we check. Supply pressure at the hose, valve coils with a meter, pressure hose for blockage.
Typical fix. Clean screens, replace the inlet valve, or clear the pressure chamber. Samsung shows a 4C code for this; LG shows IE.
Loud noise, banging or grinding
Likely cause. Banging on spin: worn suspension rods or shock absorbers, or an unlevel machine. A roar that gets louder with spin speed: tub bearings. Grinding on a front-loader: a cracked drum spider. Clicking: coins or a bra wire in the pump or between the tubs.
What we check. Tub play by hand, bearing sound with a mechanic's probe, suspension damping, and the pump housing.
Typical fix. Suspension sets and shocks are routine, mid-priced repairs. Bearings and spiders are major jobs on most front-loaders and we tell you upfront whether they clear the repair-or-replace line below.
Error codes on the display
Modern washers log faults. LG OE, UE, IE, dE, LE; Samsung 4C, 5C, dC, UB; Whirlpool and Maytag F-codes (F21, F5 E2, F7 E1); GE E22–E71. Each points at a component group, usually the drain, lock, fill or motor system. Give the dispatcher the code when you book and the technician arrives with the likely part.

Stacked units and washer-dryer combos
We repair stacked laundry centers and all-in-one combos. The diagnostic on these is $150 with one technician or $170 with two, because the unit has to be separated or pulled to reach the washer section. That fee is also credited toward the repair.

Repair or replace the washer?
Most washers last 10–14 years. The repair is usually the right call when:
- the machine is under about 8 years old and the fault is drain, lock, fill, belt or suspension;
- the quoted repair is under half the price of an equivalent new washer installed;
- the tub turns freely by hand with no roar or play (bearings are good).
Replacement starts to make sense when tub bearings or the drum spider fail on a front-loader past 8 years, when a main board fails on a unit past 10, or when a second major component goes within a year of the first. The technician gives you that read during the diagnostic, and the $59 still applies to the repair if you proceed.
Washer repair FAQ
How much is the diagnostic, and is it refunded?
$59 for a standard washer ($150–170 for stacked or combo units). It is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. If you decline the repair, the $59 covers the visit and the written diagnosis.
Can you come today?
Often, yes. We schedule same or next day: a 2-hour window such as 1–3 PM or 4–6 PM today when a technician is free on your side of town, otherwise the first window next morning, often 8–10 AM.
My washer is full of water and won't drain. What should I do before you arrive?
Unplug it and leave the water in; the technician drains it through the pump filter or hose into a pan. Do not tip the machine. If you have a front-loader, do not open the door.
Do you repair both front-load and top-load washers?
Yes, plus high-efficiency top-loaders without an agitator, stacked laundry centers and all-in-one washer-dryer combos.
Is it worth repairing a washer with bad bearings?
Rarely on a front-loader older than 8 years: the tub often has to be split or replaced as an assembly. We quote it, but we tell you when a new machine is the better use of the money.
What warranty do I get?
6 months on all labor. Standard replacement parts such as pumps, locks, valves and belts carry a 3-month courtesy warranty; FiXiFY is not the parts manufacturer.
