Common dryer problems we repair in Denver

Tap a symptom. Each section says what usually causes it, what we check on site, and what the fix normally is.

Dryer not heating

Electric dryers. The heating element is the usual failure: a coil breaks and the drum turns but the air stays cold. The thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat and cycling thermostat sit on the same circuit and open when the dryer overheats, almost always because the vent is restricted.

What we check. Element continuity, fuse and thermostats with a meter, both legs of the 240 V supply at the terminal block (a tripped half-breaker gives you a running dryer with no heat), and the vent run behind the machine.

Typical fix. Replace the element, or the thermal fuse plus the thermostat that failed with it. If the fuse opened because of lint, we tell you the vent needs cleaning before the new fuse goes the same way. Related guide: Dryer not heating.

Gas dryers. The igniter glows but no flame means the flame sensor or the gas valve coils have failed. Coils are a common Whirlpool, Maytag and Kenmore fault: the burner lights once, then stops after a few minutes.

Dryer takes too long to dry

Likely cause. Restricted airflow. A full load that needs two cycles almost always traces to a lint-packed vent, a crushed flexible duct, or a blocked exterior hood. Less often a partially failed heating element (one coil of two) or a dirty moisture sensor that ends the cycle early.

What we check. Exhaust airflow at the hood, element resistance, moisture-sensor bars, and the cycling thermostat.

Typical fix. Clear the duct connection, replace the weak element or sensor. We do not sell you parts when the problem is the vent. Guide: Dryer takes too long.

Dryer won't start

Likely cause. On Whirlpool-platform dryers (Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, Amana) a blown thermal fuse kills the whole machine, not just the heat. Otherwise: a failed door switch, start switch, belt switch, or the main control board.

What we check. Power at the outlet, thermal fuse, door switch, start relay on the board, drive motor windings.

Typical fix. Fuse, door switch or start switch are same-visit repairs when the part is on the truck. Boards are quoted from your model number. Guide: Dryer won't start.

Motor runs, drum doesn't turn

Likely cause. A snapped drive belt. Second most common: a seized idler pulley that let the belt slip and burn.

What we check. Belt, idler pulley bearing, drum rollers while the cabinet is open.

Typical fix. New belt and idler pulley together. If the rollers are flat-spotted we recommend changing them in the same visit; the labor overlaps and you avoid a second call.

Squealing, thumping, grinding

Likely cause. Squeal: worn drum rollers or idler pulley bearing. Thump: a flat-spotted roller or an object caught in the blower housing. Grind or scrape: worn drum glides, rear drum bearing, or a drum felt seal that has shifted.

What we check. We spin the drum by hand with the belt off and isolate each bearing surface, then run the blower separately.

Typical fix. Roller kit, idler pulley, glides or bearing. Guide: Dryer loud noise and rollers.

Dryer stops mid-cycle

Likely cause. Overheating that trips the thermal cutoff, a drive motor with a worn overload that shuts down when hot, a moisture sensor reading "dry" because of fabric-softener film, or a failing control board.

What we check. Vent airflow first, then motor temperature after 15 minutes of running, sensor bars, and board error history where the model stores one.

Typical fix. Depends on which of the four it is; this is a diagnostic-first job. Guide: Dryer stops mid-cycle.

Error codes on the display

Modern dryers log faults. Samsung HE, tE and dE; LG tE1, dE and PF; Whirlpool and Maytag F01, AF and PF each point at a specific component, usually a thermistor, door switch or airflow fault. Bring the code to the call and the dispatcher passes it to the tech, who arrives with the likely part.

Code guides: Samsung dryer codes · LG dryer codes · Whirlpool dryer codes · Maytag dryer codes.

Gas and electric, vented and ventless

We repair gas and electric dryers, standard vented models, condensing and heat-pump ventless units, and stacked laundry centers. Note on stacked or combination washer-dryer units: the diagnostic is $150 with one technician or $170 with two, because the unit has to be separated or pulled to reach the dryer section. That fee is also credited toward the repair.

What dryer repair costs in Denver

Our price has three parts: the $59 diagnostic (credited), flat-rate labor for the specific repair, and the part at the price in our price book. You see the total before we open the toolbox, and a yes or no then is fine either way.

Brands we repair

Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore and Amana dryers share one platform, so the parts we carry for one usually fit the others. All brands.

Why Denver homeowners call FiXiFY for dryer repair

  • Diagnostic credited. The $59 you pay to find the fault comes off the repair price.
  • Exact price before work. Flat-rate labor from a published price book, parts quoted by model number. No hourly meter.
  • Common parts on the truck. Heating elements, thermal fuses, thermostats, belts, idler pulleys and roller kits for Whirlpool, Samsung, LG and GE platforms, so most heat and noise repairs finish in the first visit when the part fits your model.
  • 6-month labor warranty. Standard replacement parts carry a 3-month courtesy warranty. If the same fault returns under warranty, we schedule a return visit within 48 hours (except Sundays and holidays).
  • 400+ Google reviews at 4.9★, earned since 2019 in Denver, Aurora, Lakewood and Westminster homes.
  • Dispatcher on the phone 7 AM to 10 PM, every day. You get a 2-hour arrival window, confirmed by text.

Repair or replace the dryer?

Dryers are mechanically simple and most last 12–18 years. The repair is usually the right call when:

  • the dryer is under about 10 years old and the fault is heat, belt, rollers or a switch;
  • the quoted repair is under half the price of an equivalent new unit installed;
  • the cabinet and drum are sound (no rust-through, no cracked drum weld).

Replacement starts to make sense when a motor or control board fails on a unit past 12 years, or when a second major component goes within a year of the first. The technician gives you that read during the diagnostic, and the $59 still applies to the repair if you proceed.

Dryer repair FAQ

How much is the diagnostic, and is it refunded?

$59 for a standard dryer ($150–170 for stacked units). It is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. If you decline the repair, the $59 covers the visit and the written diagnosis.

Can you come today?

Often, yes. We schedule same or next day: a 2-hour window such as 1–3 PM or 4–6 PM today when a technician is free on your side of town, otherwise the first window next morning, often 8–10 AM.

My dryer runs but there is no heat. Is it the element?

On electric dryers, most of the time. The other candidates are the thermal fuse, the thermostats, or one leg of the 240 V supply. Check your breaker panel first: a half-tripped double breaker produces exactly this symptom.

Do you repair gas dryers?

Yes. Igniters, flame sensors, gas valve coils and thermal fuses are standard repairs. We do not run new gas lines or vents.

Is it a fire hazard to keep using a dryer that stops mid-cycle?

Treat it as one until it is diagnosed. Overheat shutdowns point to a lint-restricted vent, which is the main cause of dryer fires. Stop using it and book the diagnostic.

What warranty do I get?

6 months on all labor. Standard replacement parts such as elements, fuses, thermostats, belts and rollers carry a 3-month courtesy warranty; FiXiFY is not the parts manufacturer.
