Refrigerator not cooling at all

Likely cause. If the compressor is silent: a failed compressor start relay or run capacitor (a $20 part that mimics a dead compressor), an inverter board on LG and Samsung linear-compressor models, or the compressor itself. If the compressor runs hot but nothing cools: dirty condenser coils, a stopped condenser fan motor, or a sealed-system fault (refrigerant leak or restriction).

What we check. Compressor amperage and winding resistance, relay and capacitor, condenser coil and fan, evaporator frost pattern, and system pressures when the frost pattern points to a sealed-system problem.

Typical fix. Relay, capacitor, condenser fan or coil cleaning are same-visit repairs. Inverter boards and compressors are quoted from the model number. Freezer is cold but the fridge is warm

Likely cause. The single most common refrigerator call. The evaporator fan motor that pushes cold air from the freezer into the fresh-food section has failed (listen for a fan that stops when you open the freezer door and does not restart), or the evaporator coil has frosted into a solid block because the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or defrost control board has failed. On French-door models a stuck air damper gives the same symptom.

What we check. Fan operation, evaporator coil condition behind the back panel, heater and bi-metal thermostat with a meter, damper movement, thermistor readings.

Frost or ice building up in the freezer

Likely cause. A door gasket that no longer seals (frost along the door edge and on the top shelf), a door left ajar by a crisper drawer or ice bin, or a failed defrost system that lets the evaporator ice over. On LG models an iced evaporator shows up as the rF or dH F code.

What we check. Gasket with a dollar-bill test around the full perimeter, door hinge alignment, defrost heater continuity, defrost thermostat, drain tube.

Refrigerator freezing food

Likely cause. A failed thermistor (temperature sensor) reporting warm when the compartment is cold, a damper stuck open on a French-door unit, a control board holding the compressor on, or produce stored against the cold-air vent at the back. Deli drawers that freeze lettuce are often a damper or a set-point problem.

What we check. Thermistor resistance against the spec table, damper motor, actual compartment temperature with a logger over 20 minutes, compressor run time.

Water leaking inside or under the fridge

Likely cause. A frozen or clogged defrost drain tube (water pools under the crisper drawers), a cracked drain pan, a split water line or leaking inlet valve on the ice and water system, or a water filter housing that was not seated after a filter change.

What we check. Drain tube with warm water, drain pan, inlet valve and fittings, filter head, floor behind the unit.

Ice maker not making ice

Likely cause. Freezer running warmer than 10 °F (the ice maker will not cycle until the mold is cold enough), a frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve, low supply pressure through a saddle valve, or the ice maker module itself. Samsung and LG French-door ice makers that freeze up are a known pattern and often need a kit, not just a part.

What we check. Freezer temperature, fill tube, valve coils and water pressure, module test cycle, and the ice maker's own fault indicator where the model has one.

Loud noise, clicking or buzzing

Likely cause. A rattling or chirping evaporator fan blade hitting frost, a condenser fan motor with worn bearings, a compressor that clicks every few minutes (the start relay trying and failing), or normal expansion sounds mistaken for a fault.

What we check. We isolate each motor by hand and listen at the compressor compartment.

Typical fix. Fan motor or relay. If the compressor itself is knocking, we talk about the repair-or-replace line before quoting.

Error codes on the display

Samsung (22E, 5E, 84C, blinking panel), LG (rF, FF, Er dH, CO), Whirlpool and KitchenAid (PO, inverter LED flashes), GE (shows "FF" or temperature flashing), Frigidaire (SY EF, SY CE, H) each point at a fan, sensor, defrost or communication fault. Repair or replace the refrigerator?

How much is the diagnostic, and is it refunded?

$59 for a residential refrigerator or freezer. It is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. If you decline the repair, the $59 covers the visit and the written diagnosis.

My fridge stopped cooling. Can you come today?

Often, yes. We schedule same or next day, with a 2-hour window such as 1–3 PM or 4–6 PM. Tell the dispatcher the fridge is warm and it is treated as a priority slot. In the meantime keep the doors closed; a full freezer holds for about 48 hours.

The freezer works but the fridge is warm. What is it?

Most often the evaporator fan motor or an iced-over evaporator from a failed defrost heater or thermostat. Both are routine repairs. A stuck damper on French-door models is the third candidate.

Do you fix LG and Samsung compressors?

Yes. LG linear compressors carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty on the part; if yours is inside that window we tell you how to use it and quote the labor only. Outside the window we quote the full job against replacement.

Do you repair built-in and counter-depth refrigerators?
